To Build a Community Around Down Syndrome Families

We never want anyone to feel alone during their Down syndrome journey.  Genes of joy has partnered with local hospitals and OB clinics to offer families a connection at the time of diagnosis.  We provide gift baskets welcoming families to the Down syndrome community, and more importantly we are there to talk and listen.

Throughout the year we have events for families to socialize, learn and sometimes just rest and take a break.

To Promote Down Syndrome Awareness

We want the world to know just how awesome Down syndrome is!  We also want to teach the world what Down syndrome is not.  By holding events in the community and showing "real life" stories of Down syndrome on our Facebook page, we show that individuals with Down syndrome are just like anybody else.

Beginning in 2018, Genes of Joy will hold the Pensacola Buddy Walk the fourth Saturday in October.  This is a great way to show the community how we celebrate Down syndrome.

To Provide Resources

We are learning new things about the Down syndrome community everyday.  Have questions about prenatal testing, heart disorders, ear tubes, orthotics, IEP's, inclusion practices, college programs?  We don't claim to know all the answers, but we would love to connect you to resources that can help.  We are also partners with local groups, like the Pensacola Exceptional Parents Connection (PEPC) and national organizations such as the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).
